What is Ayurveda Ayurveda means Science of Life and is the ancient healing system of India. It’s origins go back thousands of years but its application is as relevant today as it’s ever been. Principles of Ayurveda The philosophy of Ayurveda is built on the principle of the five elements which are earth, water, fire, air and space. In various combinations they form the three functional entities of the body– Vata, Pitta and Kapha. We are all made up of these three Doshas but in different ratios. For example, naturally large people have more earth and water which makes up Kaphadosha and naturally small framed people have more air and space which makes up Vatadosha. Fiery and ambitious people tend to have lot s of Fire and Water which makes up Pitta dosha.
When the Doshas are in balance, there is good health. When out of balance, disease sets in.
Aama Almost everyone has toxins or Aama in their bodies and this is one of the main causes of Dosha imbalance. To bring about a better state of health Ayurveda makes use of a wide variety of techniques and treatments such as herbs, foods, massage and yoga to clear the body of Aama and bring the Doshas back into balance.
